Help!!!

Have you ever played a song so many times you get worse at it instead of better?

I have a recital coming up soon and I have been practicing the Minute Waltz and Clair de Lune for quite a while to prepare. Now both songs are "stale" and are going downhill. What should I do? About a week ago they were perfect! Now I'm really sick of them and they have lost their shine and I'm making a ton of mistakes.

Does anyone have any suggestions for when this happens?

Thanks

Yeah, I've found that relying on muscle memory for too long degrades the quality of my playing. Just looking back at the sheet music and reviewing the notes helps. Also, if you're getting sick of the pieces, just take a break. Don't play them; maybe even start working on something new.

Just take a break. I find that when I play a piece a lot in a short period of time I start sucking at it. Just give it a week, play it again, then you will notice a difference.
