To my hears (and to my fingers ) the most difficult piece is definitly the 3rd concerto of rachmaninov.

"There is no such thing as a Difficult Piece. A piece is either imposible or it is easy. The process whereby it migrates from one category to the other is known as practising." (quote from Louis Kentner)

I am a music student (music therapist). Have u ever play a piece that make people cry? Or... make a hopeless person smile? For me, there is no hardest piece in the world. The best pianist can touch the hearts of people. And this is the soul of music.

i read about vexations by satie, and you write about music having physical effects... tears and such

somebody tried performing this piece solo but had to stop 16 hours into it for it was causing him to hallucinate

what can one say to something like that really? it brings a tear to my eye...

well, i was looking for the hardest piece too, but i got nothing until one day, i was looking at something. That `piece` didn`t seem like one but it had so many notes that not even the computer can play the whole thing! I heard a sample of it (all the computer can manage) and it was a good song. Although i forgot the name... -_-;;

I think that you should try a piece called Hungarian Rhapsody no.12 written by Franz Liszt, you can dowload and print it free at www.sheetmusicarchive.net

ive heard it played, if that is what you are asking. it is great, and it is hard to perform, i never meant to say anything comtrary. but on a thread when people are asking for difficult pieces, there are better to put out there. tis all

ive been told that hungarian rhapsody no.2 is the most difficult of the hungarian rhapsodies, coming from someone who has played all of them.

i still advocate a solo performance of vexations by satie. if anybody does, and is sane enough to comprehend reality still, it is would be worth it to tell me, and know youve made my day. not that it would happen. nobody is insane enough to try... cough, cough...... (it will happen eventually)

K I looked at the Hungarian Rhapsody 12 on www.sheetmusicarchive.net and I noticed that although It is quite difficult, I found that the friska of Rhapsody 2 was much harder...My opinion don`t start a huge fuss over it...
