Hello, I think hardest piece to play is Rachmaninov`s (ten preludes) - Prelude No.2 in B flat major - maestoso. It`s very hard to play it. Besides that there`s his 3.concerto in d-minor. Try to play middle part `Kadenza`. Anyway; where I can find music you play to download? Hardest piece I ever play is Liszt - Liebestraum. But, hey, I`m only 16

Where should I start? Liszt transcription of Beethoven`s 5th symphony (but all 9 are excruciatingly difficult, obviously he only wrote them for his own satisfaction), Liszt`s transcription of Rigoletto, Liszt`s Mephisto Waltz, Liszt`s Don Juan Fantasy, Scriabin; Vers la Flemme (from a set of two poems), all of Scriabin`s sonatas, Prokofiev `Toccata`, Bach`s French Suites, Bach`s Brandenberg Concerti, Ravel`s Gaspard de la Nuit, Debussy`s preludes, Chopin`s etude no.1, Rachmaninov concertos 1 and 3, Prokofiev concertos 2 and 3.

It`s quite amusing to see other`s opinions on the most difficult repertoire, knowing that everything is individual, being that there are so many difficulties to overcome on the piano, and the fact that EVERYTHING is difficult.

I somehow doubt your ability, seeing that you are so experienced and can`t find a challenge on your own. No offence...

These pieces are judged on sheer technical complexity; playing a slow, lyrical, musical piece takes much more work than learning a technical passage (this can obviously be misinterpreted... you know what I mean). Try some Debussy, his suite Bergamasque is hauntingly beautiful and musically ingenious; you can find it on www.sheetmusicarchive.net

Don`t hurt yourself.

I know this has nothing to do with what you said, but you might know this. Have you ever seen that episode of Tom and Jerry when the Cat plays the piano and Jerry messes around with, like he replaced some keys with a mousetrap. I am being serious about this. If you the name of the song he was playing, that would help since I wish to play it. Thanks

Well it`s been my expreience finding that Rachmoninoff and Liszt are the hardest, try Lizst`s "The Legend of St. Paola Walking on the Waters" Rachmoninoff Prelude in G minor, Opus 23, No 25, and the infamous Balakirev`s Islamy and Oriental Fantasy. That should hold ya over! ehhh

Stop saying things that are wrong!! Look back a page! SORABJI IS THE MOST DIFFICULT COMPOSER WHO`S MUSIC IS STILL POSSIBLE!! HARDER THAN LISZT, HARDER THAN CHOPIN, HARDER THAN RACHMANINOFF, HARDER THAN ANY TONAL COMPOSER THAT ANYBODY ON THIS FORUM HAS MENTIONED!

For God`s sake, nobody knows what they`re talking about on this forum. This place is full of amateurs who consider themselves to be so smart.... you know nothing...

It seems that you don`t know what are you saying... Have you seen Listz`s Totentanz piano sheet?! How can anything be harder then that?! So many grace notes you have to play extremly correct and with strong feeling... Erm...

Well that was fun to read. I`ve just ordered a piano start practising on aged 31 and never played before. I was in my heart of hearts hoping to find a mature student thread but got sidetracked into reading on. one thing in particular struck me. if you are all writing in this forum then you all play piano and if you all play piano then you all have strong fingers right? So isnt your brain attached to your fingers?.

Instead of not being able to learn everything even the obscure pieces, why not be out playing for a good cause instead of bickering about someones dumb question. I bet he is a wierdo or a liar or a fink .(whatver one of those is)

Jasper,

Go to pianofiles.com, and do a search for Opus Clavicembalisticum. Then email one of the people who have it and ask them to send it to you. That`s how I got my copy.
