So I wanted to start recording off of my piano using MIDI, so I got Reaper and started using the free trial for pianoteq. The audio sample for pianoteq sounded bad to me, so I moved on to the Addictive Keys free trial. I was so impressed with the sound that I jumped the gun and purchased it. After playing around with it, I noticed that I have a hard time letting the melody stand out because the most piano noise I can make is still relatively forte, and I'm not too sure if this is a hardware issue or if the software is just bad. I'm not poor, so I don't mind buying a new program, but I'm not exactly rich, either, so I don't want to buy another program if this issue will persist no matter what program I go with. So is this something that I have to deal with using MIDI, or is there a better program that you guys recommend?

You should be able to adjust the key sensitivity in Addictive Keys on the tweaking page, assuming your piano is sending the velocity data correctly tweaking the sensitivity will be all you need to do to set it to have dynamics better suited to your playing.

Alternatively, your piano might be be sending fixed velocity information for some reason. Most digital pianos have that as an option, so if you don't think your dynamics are coming across at all (or tweaking Addictive Keys doesn't seem to be working out), dig out the piano manual and find how to set the piano key response.
