after reading this comment I started wondering about the choice of my pieces. It's kind of weird to admit, but I've spent now about 9 months (with breaks) on one piece and, after reading that post, finally admitted to myself that it's probably too difficult for me. I guess I'm not the only one who has trouble to determine which pieces should I learn and what pieces are too difficult for me.

So, how does one know whether one piece has the right level of difficulty - dependent one ones skill level? Is it that you're able to play both hands (slowly) from the beginning or at least after a week? Is it that you've learned it reasonably well within let's say 2 months? 3 months? 4 months? What are your methods?
