I`ve heard of some people that have made their little $300 kit look like a $3,000 custom kit by refinishing it themselves, but there are far more people that have ruined their drums by refinishing it.
You may want to check out www.rockenwraps.com for some really cool finishes, or maybe try drummaker.com they have the more traditional finishes, and any other pieces that you may need to fix your kit up. Hope this helps!!

O, and another thing, you may want to go buy a Modern Drummer (magazine) they always have really good sites and other info.
