So. If you doubt me. I would like to say I have 10years of drum playing under my belt. I am 17 now. Yes. Started at 7. I've been in Concert Band ever sense I could. I've been in Marching Band for now 5 years. I've played Pit, Bass, then Snare. I'm now moving to Tenor's/Quads. This will be my fourth year in a row as Drum Captain for our Marching Band. Not only Marching Band but I can also play Drum Set. I'm well rounded in all Percussion Areas.

If YOU have any questions. Candences, Ideas/Thoughts or Anything you have in mind, feel free to ask. I will be glade to help.

I also have a question.

I'm working on a showcase cadence that is Greek themed and features triplets as the general motif. Now, should I keep the song centered on complex 4/4 based Greek rhythm, breaking off into 7/8 and 5/8 sections/solos, or should I keep the song strictly 7/8 based, moving into other, more simple time signatures for the solos?

I've considered both heavily. Keeping the general rhythm in 4/4 and moving into complex time signatures will keep an efficient hook, then will wow the crowd with incomprehensibly bombastic and impossible solos, bringing them back to the basic cadence of the complicated group rhythm. However, keeping the song based on a 7/8 rhythm will make the song extremely more Greek in nature, and simpler solo time signatures will give the soloists a chance to really unleash. Unfortunately, with the latter choice I'm afraid the crowd won't fall into the main rhythm as well, and might not find the significance and history behind the Greek centered rhythms, expecting, as crouds normall do, to see a hip-hop show. Also with the latter choice it will be harder to start and effectively complete a musically and rhythically plausible canon as my cadences are generally want to do.

I am truely troubled by this problem and would really like some sound advice.

sorry for all the spelling errors...

As with all other hardships you will encounter as a drummer, slow the beat down a lot and break it down beat for beat or measure for measure. Learn it very slow bit by bit till you can play it all in a row very slowly. Then try and speed up the beat, making sure you go only as fast as you can play the hardest parts.

HEY!
Maybe you can help me...
I can read music (I started reading it when I was 5), but the rest of the percussion section cannot. This is the fourth year in band, and they still come up to me and ask me to write in the notes. They don't learn the notes, they just want someone to write them in. I want to teach them how to read music (it will be easier on their part), but everything I have tried dosen't help (like I told them the F-A-C-E for the spaces and Ernie Gave Bert Dead Fish for the lines). Do you have any advice?
