I am new to percussion and was wondering what type of drumstick should I use? I am in a concert band.

if you are new to playing, i would recommend 2B. reason being, they are larger in your hands and help train the needed muscles a little bit better. As your playing gets stronger, you will tend to play louder. i would then switch to 5B's
My personal preference is nylon tips. they wont wear down as quickly or split with the grain at the tips

Thanks for the advice.

I was looking on a site showing how to choose a drumstick and it looked like a drumstick made of hickory with a wood tip and size 5A would work best what do you think?

I would recommend Cooperman Drumsticks. Although the rosewood sticks are expensive, I love mine. Here's a website: www.lonestarpercussion.com

I second the Cooperman's for concert settings. For marching: Vic Firth Corpsmaster series. My school line uses the Ralph Hardimon signature sticks. For drumset it's just your preference. I use Vic Firth Zoro signatures. But for concert stuff, Cooperman is definitely quality stuff.

I use Brook Wackerman Zildjian sticks because they're super durable and just heavy enough. I'm still on my first pair and it's been a year scince I bought them.
