Dear Music Colleagues:

The US Air Force Band of the Golden West would like to announce a vacancy for a Drum Set player / Percussionist. Our group is located at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, CA, just east of the San Francisco Bay Area, also near Napa Valley and Sacramento. Those interested in this position should be well-rounded performers, capable of performing various drum set styles, and must be have able to read both lead sheets and traditional written notation. Although the emphasis of this position is drum set playing, applicants must also have the ability to perform snare drum rudiments and techniques, ensemble-style orchestral percussion (bass drum, crash cymbals, etc.), basic keyboard/mallet percussion, and basic tuning and technique on timpani. For more specific information on requirements, please see the list of Percussion Audition Requirements here:

USAF Band of the Golden West
ATTN: SSgt Jeremy Martin

It is highly recommended that applicants include a variety of drum set styles on the submitted recording, as well as some keyboard percussion playing and a snare drum solo/etude from the attached list. Materials should be postmarked by June 3, 2011. Those selected as semifinalists will be notified and invited to the live audition, which will be held at Travis Air Force Base on June 20, 2011.

Applicants must be between the ages of 17 and 35; minimum initial enlistment is four years. Starting salary ranges from $38K-$42k annually. Members of the Air Force Band enjoy full military benefits, including complete medical/dental coverage for yourself and all family members, educational benefits (such as the new Post-9/11 GI Bill and Student Loan Repayment up to $10K), and 30 days of annual paid vacation.
