Most percussionist do not have the "i`m better than anyone" attitude most drummers have. Their is a kid at my school who says he`s a drummer and he`s better than everyone even the college kids. I`ll admit the kid can play but he`s not a percussionist since he can only play the drums like snare, bass, timpani but none of the keyboard instruments.

I think the difference between a percussionist and a drummer is that a percussionist looks at his drum set and sees it as an instrument while a drummer sees "noise." I`m sick and tired of all the idiot drummers out there who can only do a simple good charlotte beat and thats it. A percussionist can hear someone else play and instead of saying "oh yeah, I can beat that," they can reason that this was really cool or I want to try to learn that. A percussionist can hear a really good drummer play and say, "I want to aspire to that someday."

any real musician feels the music hes playing.if someones into punk let them play it. your saying drummers just bang stuff, and dont know what there doing? good for them!!!!! i respect someone who can come up with thier own beats and teach themselves to play more than someone who takes lessons and uses what other people know to fake the emotion expressed in music.the pioneers of rock (george thorgood, chuck berry,-----ginger baker!!!!)never took lessons.the best musicians seem to be the ones who have to sweat to learn. to be a man is not only to stand on your own feet ,but to walk on them as well. these berkley richie b*tch chumps who buy thier musical talent are defacating the reason i aspire to be a musician. im not trying to rag on ne one or class all berkley students as skill robbing posers, because many of those people learned thier intrument themselves and need the college degree to make in the music industry, but some people look at it as just a career.

ok, listen. You all need to shut up. There is no goddamned difference. Both categories fall under the same heading: Musician. Personally, I`d much rather listen to music that was written by the band who is playing it, instead of watching a buch of retards in uniforms make shapes on the football field. I know that takes skill too, but there`s no artistic expression there. Listen to Travis Barker, Neil Peart, or John Bonim play anything, and tell me they aren`t skilled musicians.

i myself think all percussion instruments suck balls except for the drum kit. i play in a metal/punk band n i can say im pretty good. but i believe the real percussionists r the drummers in jazz and funk. they have much more complex drums than slayer n even cradle of filth

wow, i feel your pain. i do feel sorry for all the real precussionists. in my band, half of the drumline can`t read music which includes on one snare all the bases and the our bell player. sad. i`ve known really talented precussionists, and i`ve known those deadbeats who call themselves drummmers.
