I know almost nothing about drum sets, but I`m thinking of buying one off ebay, and it has cheapo cymbals. So, if I hand hammer them, will they sound a lot better? Just wondering. Please help!
Thanks,
Joel

Hammering those "cheap cymbals" probably isnt goin 2 make them sound better in my opinion. if you hammer a cymbal it slows down the sound waves and makes the cymbal sound darker. your best bet would be to go to a drum store and pick up some good used cymbals.

Just finished hand hammering an 20 inch A Zildjian crash/ride, top side up to the bell. Sounds sounds a lot less ringy and a little darker. Use a ball and peen hammer watch you don`t hit too hard, you might end up cracking the cymbal. But if you have a cymbal to experiment with, go for it. Otherwise, don`t risk it.
