I`m in 8th grade, and in the high school marching band. And even though I really want to play snare, I`m currently in the pit. And I must point out that the pit is cool, and does some pretty cool things too.

Just by reading some of your responses to other peoples opinions, it makes me think that none of you have any pride in being in percussion. It doesn`t matter which instrument you play. As percussionitsts, we play togther, no matter what the circumstances.

Its true a percussionest should love what he or she plays even if you would rather play something else as percussionests we play a wide range of instruments so stop complaining about what we dont like and start talking about what we do like

im a freshman, im considering going out for snare (only cuz our school just lost 90% of next years drumline to either drugs or something like that). otherwise freshmen arent allowed to try out for line unless your are like amazing, we are...well we were one of the best percussion in the state.

i really would go out for tenors but there is a problem, i cant carry them let alone march them. but im staying in pit cuz im really getting good at my 4 mallet technique and hopefully with everything that has happend here in CC, FL we might get new keyboards, our stuff sucks like crap.

Check out my web site. I have Africa Hot and Rudiments Rule video. You can also download Rudiments Rule music for free. Look for more exercises and solos on the site. Links to my other solos as well. Check it out, let me know what you think.

Im not really talking about solo music but the easest way to play the snare is by ear sheet music is over rated. I've been playing since i was 8 and ive never learned how to read music.
Im great now iam going to become leader when the next open try-outs and they are on the 6th of march and thats my birthday im guarenteed a spot as leader.

And my name really tells it all i'am cold on the snare hahahahahahhahahahahaha

the winner is not a really hard solo piece if u really wanna make your high school line try something more challenging like shala, or in-pulse.

hey guys...im a freshie and im on a drumline of 36 ppl for my school...and dont get all caught up in snare because TRUE percussionists can play w.e is thrown at them, not just one thing. More than 75% of our kids on the drumline can't play for s***...all they can do is improvise and do some little spin tricks and crap. So all those middle schoolers, don't show off. Freshies dont have the right to even if they are what they think they are. If you have some free time try out so mallets, its not as bad as you think. Sure some songs suck, but once you get good at it you might be given something thats actually fun to play. I prefer marimba...it just sounds a lot smoother.

This year i was on bass for my drumline and i must say, its terrible. Next year im planning on moving to Quads/Tenor if not snare.
