I play a Gemeinhardt 33SSB, a Pearl "Quantz Coda" ,and have had a Yamaha YFL-674H, but sold it for my PearL, But I an not stand how people keep saying that Gemeinhardts are not good flutes, and that they are poor flutes, when out of all my fluts/piccolos they have the best sound, and I do not only play a Gemeinhardt so I can really say that they are the most superior to others, and I do not understand why people say that they are not, it makes no scense?

Gemeinhardt flutes aren't up to the same benchmarks of quality that some other makers build their instruments to. This is particularly true of newer Gemeinhardts, but I don't think we've said Gemeinhardts aren't good flutes. I would not recommend a Gemeinhardt above the student (or possibly intermediate) levels, as there are better built flutes available where you get more for your money, but there is nothing really wrong with Gemmies. Everyone has their own preferences, so if you like your Gemeinhardt, that's fine. I personally dislike them (I find their mechs boxy and the headjoints difficult to work with), but that's just an opinion. No reason to get all defensive if someone doesn't like your flute of choice....After all, they're not the one that has to play it.

I am not being all defensive what I am trying to say is all these student, and other flutist are bring drawn away from gemeinhardt when, they do not get a chance to get to try them, instaed type such as sankyo, and pearl, are being pushed on them, and i do not think many students have the money, to pay for them, nor even try a Gemeinhardt, but you are right is is all opinion, but you know what I am trying to get at.

Frankly, Pearl and Sankyo are better quality instruments that will carry students further musically. I don't think it's anything particularly aimed at Gemmies, but there's no reason to buy a flute that you're probably going to have to replace in a short time. In any case, Gemeinhardts are absolutely everywhere still...Music stores, internet shops, trade shows, what have you. I don't think your claim that students aren't even given the chance to play a Gemmie really holds up...They're probably some of the most widely distributed makes of flute on the market. And if students didn't have the money to pay for a more expensive flute, they wouldn't be buying them.

you are nto getting what i am saying..what I am saying is the students are asking around and too many people are saying gemeinhardts are a waste and the decide not to try them and just move on..I mean I like my Gemeinhardt alot but I love my Pearl too.

I have never heard anyone here or on any other forum describe Gemeinhardts as a waste (In the right circumstances, I still suggest them even though I don't particularly care for them). However, most people who are buying a first flute don't ask questions on forums because they don't know what to ask or assume everything is the same, and once you get past the student level, there are better choices out there for the money. Even if students are doing as you say, as long as they end up with a flute they like (whether or not they tried Gemmies), then there's really no problem. Maybe they would have liked a Gemeinhardt, and maybe not, but as long as whatever they do buy suits them, they should be fine.

I don't know where you're getting these negative comments from people that haven't even tried one. As I pointed out, they're some of the most easily accessible flutes out there, and most people who recommend instruments on these forums have a pretty wide knowledge base. Yes, you do get the occasional negative comment about Gemmies, but that's true of any brand of flute, and it's not exactly a rampant problem for people to attack Gemmies here or on other forums. In any case, like I said above, there's no point in getting bent out of shape for people saying negative things about your flute of choice, as there is no make of flute that everyone likes.

Ok. I don't understand what the point of this thread was, though. If you don't pick Gemeinhardt as your flute of choice, why get upset if others don't like it? And I seem to remember you posting that of the flutes you've played, the Gemmie was the nicest sounding, so why don't you like it best?

You said "I can really say that they are the most superior to others." That seems to me to indicate that you hold them above the other flutes you've played. And that still doesn't answer my questions. Why get so bothered by people supposedly bad-mouthing Gemmies if you don't even think they're the best option? And if they're "the most superior to others," why aren't they your favorite of the various makes?

<Added>

You also described the Gemeinhardt as your "pride flute" and said "the gemeinhardt is my fav," both of which seem to contradict the point that you never said the Gemmie was your flute of choice.
