Hi,
I am about to buy a new saxophone as a present for his recent graduation. However, I cannot afford more than $750. The brands I can have for this sum are Jupiter, Antigua winds and Trevor James. Can anyone tell me whether any of these brands is worth this money and which of these three is the best. Thanks.

I`m sorry, I have never heard of Trevor James, but from my experience, do NOT get him a Jupiter, they are among the worst. My recommendation would be the Antiqua Winds, I used to play on one. Their beginner models are of good quality, modelled after very expensive horns and built better. I would definently recommend Antigua Winds, they manufacture some of the best beginner saxophones. Hope this helps.

Stay away from a jupiter, i own an alto jupiter, it`s horrible, jupiter makes good flutes though.

for his graduation, don`t buy him a 750 sax, believe me, give him the money or something or save up till about 1500 or something and grab a nice one off of e-bay. A bad sax is never a deal.

Trevor James is a UK-based sax manufacturer with a good name for producing good quality instruments. "The Horn" is a worthy Alto (if that`s what you`re after)and is available from www.saxophones.co.uk This is an excellent British retailer of nothing but saxes and well worth a `visit`.
