Could you be a little more specific? Are you referring to the instrumentation in a big band, or the accessories on the instrument itself?

I mean like what sax do you use, what mouthpiece, reed, etc. You see for me, I have a 1922 King Voll-True(I`m about to get a new sax) a Otto Link alto mp, and 2.5 Rico Jazz Select Reeds.
BTW, you should check out my forum, saxophoneforum.myfreeforum.org. It`s awesome.

well, I have a few different saxes (6) and they all can play jazz, but I guess my main "outfit" is a mark Vi C* (i`m about to get a better mouthpiece though) and standard rico royal 3. im not that fancy. but, the player makes the sax, so ya. if you play jazzy, you`ll sound jazzy. the "outfit" doesn`t really do it.

You might set your tone yourself, but a good set-up does help.

"Jazz" reeds, oh where to start with "jazz" reeds, they suck, no need for them. I play alto in jazz band. I use a vandoren 3 all around, concert jazz and marching. I use a meyer 5 medium mouthpiece, standard ligature, and I have a yamaha yas62 series 2 sax. Simple enough, I have 3 mouthpieces one for each band, 2 ligatures.

The reed does make a difference. There is more of an edge with Java, V16, ZZ and rico royal select jazz than with vandoren blue box.

Soprano - LA SAX LA650 Artist Series Burnished Brass, Otto Link STM
Alto - Dave Guardala DG402SP New York Series Sterling Silver/24KT Gold, Meyer 6M

Tenor - Dave Guardala DG500BN Artist Series Black Nickel/Sterling Silver, Otto Link STM

 Baritone - Still shopping....If I can`t land a Guardala, it will be Yamaha YBS62.

I use Olegatures and Vandoren ZZ reeds on all of my horns. Considering switching to Vandoren V16`s. Not sure yet.

You can have the best equipment in the world, but if you don`t practice, you won`t accomplish a thing.

sounds like you at least have the equipment down.
 other then the alto

Tenor C-melody; Belger-Morgan mouthpiece. rico jazz reeds 3 (with the C-melodies, you have to experiment around for the best combo)

sop; 1940`s wolitzer curved (not a real wolitzer, just stamped as one) yamaha mouthpiece 3 rico royal reeds

the tenor, bari, and other alto are just student horns, havn`t upgraded them yet.
