Hi guys,

I'm new here and I was motivated to start (what I hope will be...) this thread based off of an old one which has closed for posting. The old thread dealt with whether a person should purchase a YAS62II or YAS82Z.

To my surprise (well it should not have been much of a surprise) many overwhelmingly suggested the 82Z. I recently purchased a YAS62II after trying out both. I went with what felt comfortable to me.

As the title implies, is there really a "right" sax to choose from or is there a "right" sax for everyone that may not necessarily be the same for everyone?

When making my recent purchase I tried out different YAS much like one would try on different pants to see which one fit best.

I'm curious to see how many people agree that one has to go with what "fits" best for you and who does not.

I would also urge any new saxophonist or beginning saxophonists to try out different horns before making a decision. SamAsh allows you to test out various models and most decent dealers do. It's expected.

Looking forward to your responses!

Kyle

First of all, welcome!!

In terms of comfortability, I agree that one saxophone can "fit" better that another saxophone. I was looking for a new saxophone a few months ago and, after trying out different brands, found I was more comfortable with a Yamaha than a Yanigasawa or Selmer (though the Selmer was very close in comfort with the Yamaha). I chose the Yamaha for multiple reasons, but one mainly being it felt better when I was playing it; my fingers were put in such uncomfortable positions on the Yanigasawa, I immediately put it down before I even blew into it. I ended up getting the Yamaha YAS62 not only because it's comfortable, but possibly because I'm just used to playing on a Yamaha (I had a YAS 23 before).

i believe if you want to play an instrument, go for it. But it all depends on a persons point of view on what they like best. Personally i enjoy playing alto and tenor saxophones because of their mellower sound and not as heavy or demanding as bari or bass sax(like anybody really plays bass anyway).

so i guess theres a right sax for everyone
