My marching band marched two Bari saxophone, and four Bass Clarinets. It's not that hard. I marched Bari sax in seventh grade even!

I'm sorry they don't MARCH Contrabass clarinet, they only solo on it....sorry

during marching season i march with bari sax
personally its really hard for me
im really short (like 5'4")
and it always bumps agianst my leg
and i try to hold it out more but i cant cause my hands arent strong enough and i have to tilt my head a lot
i use my harness all year long cause all they have in the line of bari neckstraps at my school are ones that ive broken cause they were plastic and flimsy

i've been marching bari for 4 years, 2 years in middle school and 2 years at high school and all i use is a regular neck strap and hold the bari right out in front of me just like all the other saxophones and have never had any problem

Ok I'm going against what I said. Next year I'm going to try marching band with the bari. I still think that the bass clarinet is too hard to hold while standing, let alone marching. It's more of a sitting instrument.

YES IT IS possible, i refuse to march with any other insrument. It is easier then it looks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The thing is fine.

The bari sax, however? I have no idea. I'll have to march with it next year.

I also think that it's funny that I need a harness in order to play it.

I'm a bari player. It's my freshman year so i haven't marched often. After one season i learned that the best way to go is with a good neotech harness. I played the fist rehearseal with a thin, non-padded alto strap. it hurt alot. i tried a good padded strap and it worked well. However, the harness is far more comforable. The only downside is that it has two side straps that have to be adjusted. if it isn'T JUST RIGHT it wont stay on and will mess up ur uniform. if you wear one of those sequiny thingies it gets anoying when the strap has to be adjusted. BEST ADVICE: take 10 or 15 mins before the game to adjust the harness.

Marching oboe is hard too...

ok, it's not that hard to march with a bari, i've done in for 3 years, and you should only have a problem if you are a total panzy

Bari-Sax is a great marching instrument. It's HUGE and it's LOUD! Awesome combination for marching band. You just need a good harness.

I marched bari for 3 years at Ben Davis in Indianapolis its not near as hard to march as you would think. we always marched with it infront of us and yes it was a bit tricky at first but once u get the hang of it its the greatest feeling in the world. my sophmore year we had 5 guys, my junior yea we had 6 guys marching bari and senior year we had 5 again. if ur ever interested, go to indianamarching.com and check out the state videos from 2003, 2004, and 2005.
