Hi everyone!!

What note does a tenor sax tune to when the band director askes the band to tune in concert pitch (Bb)?? I know altos tune to a G, so I thought tenors would tune to a C, but I'm not 100% sure...

Thanks!!

Your thoughts are correct. It would be a C.

For Bb instruments, just take the concert pitch name up a whole step to get the written note name... or two steps around the circle of 4ths/5ths, if you know that

An easy way to remember this is the names of the horn Eb Alto and Bb tenor. When you play a C on tenor it sounds like a concert Bb when you play a C on an Alto it sounds like a concert Eb, its all in the name of the horn. It is the same for Bb trumpet, Bb and Eb clarinet, F horn...etc.
