Im pretty sure that every saxophone player has heard of david sanborn, seeing as he has been around for awhile. I would not recommend imitating david sanborn unless you are listening to his straight ahead jazz songs, which he hasn't put any of those on cd's. Im guessing you are a younger player, as you get older you will find much better saxophone players to imitate.

ingnore that loser. David Sanborn is one of the best. I haven't heard anybody else with his tone. It would be an honner to play like him

Sanborn is pretty good, however my favorite Jazz saxophonists are Michael Brecker and Joe Henderson. Try listening to some of their stuff. If you're interested in classical saxophone, try listening to Marcel Mule and heck, even some Sigurd Rascher, although Rascher has too much of a dark sound for my taste, but yeah, try listening to some others.
