Hi all,
I've been wanting to learn how to play a saxophone for many years, but never had enough spare time to practice. Since I've retired, I now have plenty of spare time. I want start with a "cheaper" sax, in case I find that it to difficult, I don't want to blow a lot of my retirement money. And a cheaper sax would be easier to sell.
I have 2 brands in mind, (b) a ZEFF and (b) a MASON. I suppose they are from eastern origin. Does anybody know these brands?
Your advice would be appreciated.

I forgot to say, I don't anticipate becoming a professional player, I want to do it for my own enjoyment and to jam together with my grandson, who plays the guitar.

Hi - I am a complete beginner too (I started 18 days ago). I don't know the brands you suggested, but what worked really well for me, was that I booked a taster lesson with a local sax teacher, and he loaned me a sax for the lesson ( I just had to provide a reed). He then suggested a few reliable brands that he recommended. I then found a local place that repairs and renovates second hand saxophones, and they had a couple in stock, so I tried them out, and bought the one I liked the sound of. It was about half the price of a new one, and I am really happy with it.

Wiki did 47 hours of research for the 6 top economy horns. Mendini is #2, and that's the one we choose. After 25 years on tenor, we (me and all these authors in my head) really don't care what horn is under the mouthpiece and reed. We care about the mouthpiece and reed.
