Today I talked to a girl in Hong Kong who is selling her like new Yamaha YAS 62 silver alto sax for $1160. Is this a good price? Is this a good sax? Thanks for your help!

I believe if you follow the 2nd hand rule (-50%) that it`s a litle bit too much, but not very much, and a Yamaha is a good sax. I`d check the original price first though.

She said it was 95% new and she had only used it for about 3 months. The original price on this sax is 1600 +.

That`s not bad at all for silver plated 62.

62`s are middle of the line for yamaha, I would say that`s about a little too much for that alto. If they could drop it about 2-300, that might be a good idea. A great place to go is ebay. I bought a fully functional, somewhat new clarinet for $90. KaChing!

Yes, Ebay works wonders i got an intermediate wood, not resonite, clarinet for 75.00. I also got like a 4700.00 sax for about 1100.00....yes, ebay works wonders, though you can be screwed.

The YAS 62 is having a bit of a resurgence, from what I`ve heard. The recent trend is that pro sax players are kind of going back to this horn for its speed and tone; supposedly there are some flaws in the intonation of the "higher end" Custom series. Keep in mind, however, that the 62 used to be Yamaha`s pro model.

I`ve seen brand new YAS62s on ebay for like $1800, so IMHO $1100 is a great deal on one of these horns.

I got my YAS62 around 1991. I think the horn is well suited for classical playing due to its incredibly quick and smooth action. Sometimes it wants to play faster than me.

I dont know what those other people are talking about. That price is amazing. I have been playing the sax for 7 years. I play the Yamaha Alto YAS-62 and Soprano YSS-62. I truly believe that the 62 model was the best model that Yamaha ever made. Its tone is magnificent. I bought my YAS-62 for $1700 and I feel it was worth it even at that price. If the Yamaha that the girl is selling is in good condition than I say GET IT. THAT IS A GREAT DEAL.

I have a few friends that are profesional sax players like Jimmy Reid and Will Donato, (you can go on thier web sites) and they both play the YAS-62 and recomend them very much. If the Yamaha that you are talking about is in good condition than I say GET IT. THAT IS A GREAT DEAL.

i personally use a YTS-62 II. but i have played a YAS-62 model and they are way worth the money. BUT, do not buy it for over a grand especially an alto sax. I would reccomend you buy the Yamaha 62 mark II. Yamaha is trying to more or less stop the selling of the first model. They are no longer being made made and until the model is completely out of stock, yamaha has dropped the price of their yamaha 62 mark II to outragous prices to take the eye off the older 62.i bought my brand new out of the box YTS-62 II for about $1,600. Take advantage of this before yamaha desides to raise their prices like they should. Suggested retail for the new yamahas are some where around $2,500 to $3,000 for alto. $4,000 for tenor.
