Its as hard as you "THINK" its going to be hard.
You`re setting yourself a barrier before even trying it.

Dont THINK...just play it.

If you can learn to walk/talk/type...wash your clothes...eat and have all your bodily functions, you are capable.
Go for it! and have fun.

Hmmm, good advice, that`s true. Saxophone is fun and is a way to uniquely express yourself...if you like what it sounds like and want to play it--then play it.

Saxophone is one of the easiest, and hardest instruments to play. However, which ever one of you said it is easy to improve on a trumpet is dead wrong. Just thing of the physical mechanics of it. With the trumpet you only get three buttons, and the rest is done with your mouth. Saxophone, is a button-pusher`s dream with an average of 21 buttons. I have been trying to play the saxophone for 12 years, but only have been playing it for 4. Even though I`ve been hired, fired, played to my lips and/or gums bleed, I`ve loved nearly every moment of it.

How hard is it?! No offence but I think that`s a pretty dumb question. Everyone finds different things easier than others
Anyways, like someone else has already said... if your on a sax site then i think the people on it would generally find it pretty easy....

I would say yeah that sax is the easiest instrument to start. Easy fingerings... the embouchure isn`t too hard to figure out depending on which sax it is, at least compared to the clarinet or oboe... And you don`t have to cover up any freakin holes! Haha I remember when I started on clarinet my hands were so small I always squeaked cause I couldnt cover those danged holes. Pretty much everyone can get a sound out too but just blowing into it not like some brass instruments or the flute! So yeah sax is very easy to start.

But then again after you get past the basics I would say just about every instrument is just as hard as everything else. It just depends who you`re up against and whats the bar for a "good sax player".

Like for classical piano which I also play, you can`t even hope to compete unless you`ve been playing since you were very young and practice for multiple hours a day just because of the competition.

So good luck to you! Sax is incredibly rewarding VERY fun!
