Ben webster sound

How do you get the sexy breathy sound like Ben Webster?

Use a very open-tipped mouthpiece, and buy reeds that are size 4-5. This will make it very hard to blow out of, but once you can get a steady sound, it will sound great. Try listening to Stan Getz`s tone, his is good like that, too.

I think of breathy as being almost fake, atleast when you`re learning it.....A big reed and a open mouthpiece will do the trick, make sure you have a large and circular embochure.

Fake? How so?

Fake, you know, not real. It sounds formless and transparent. Someone like ben webster sounds fake, but Getz makes it sound real because t is only bretahy on the surface, it is solid and firm down below. But then Getz`s "breathy" is different than the regular types.
