I have to sing a B in a song I`m performing. It`s shouldn`t be that hard but whenever I try, my voice cracks and shakes and goes off tune. Can anyone help me with singing high note in general? Thanks.

My voice does that too, especially jumping from low to high notes. The best thing I can tell you to do is make sure your throat is clear before you sing those high notes, sometimes it helps me to clear my throat before singing.

The larger ( wider the range and the more powerful ), then the more cracks you`ll have , as you`ll have probrbly more than 2 transition points along your range.
Onw way to ease out these cracks is through helpful warmup ex.
Another is through your technic.
I suppose you`re taking classical vocal?
Do u know how to get the straight `pole` effect( support )? As in air pushed down and voice upwards?
And if you know u tend to have crack somewhere around that note, then u`ve to be prepared earlier. And remember to open up (inside )or use the yawning effect when singing.
if not, another way is to make the voice travel to the back ( hard pallet ), before going straight up, in that way u minimise the crack. But this method does not solve it for good, you`re just working your way around it, avoiding it.
A correct set of warm up ex will tackle this problem.

Hey Maggie,

I`d love to help you. Would you mind posting yourself singing that song at the Virtual Conservatory ( http://singing.eblah.com ) and I`ll listen to it to try and help you with what might be limiting you? It could actually be a variety of problems, including lack of support, a break between vocal registers, excess vocal tension, etc. If you post it there I and my staff can listen and give you some feedback (it`s free, btw!).

Whenever I can`t hit a high note I try just relaxing and focusing on only that. It also helps to open really wide and punch it.

try to suck in your stomach when you are doing the high notes and sing a bit softer, it helps me a lot

when you sing and try to reach the notes that you find hard to hit just take a deep breath in through your nose and belt it out it always works for me.

Some corrections- opening your mouth wide and belting the note will make the note sound worse. You suck in your diaphragm- a muscle under your rib cage. When you contract your diaphragm, it pushes more air out of your lungs.

That is actually potentially quite dangerous!
While we need to keep the air moving via the abdominal muscles (the diaphragm must relax!--it is for inhaling only--otherwise, it`d be like saying the biceps allow you to both extend and contract your arm!)
Exercises such as those on brrr (lip trill) and trrr (tongue trill) help to keep the air moving--which makes accessing the high (women) or head (men) voice and middle (women) or mixed (men) voice much more easily achieved.
The reason your post could be potentially dangerous is that a person reading it might actually force his or her voice and end up doing permanent damage to his or her voice by straining. Remember, straining is ALWAYS bad! If it hurts, STOP!
Your best bet for increasing range is to see a voice teacher who can listen to and assist you on the spot (and be sure you`re doing your exercises properly!). Otherwise, the Virtual Conservatory of Singing ( http://singing.eblah.com ) might be your best bet.

Umm....are we talking about high notes as in you hear in opera or like from artists like Mariah Carey, Jessica Simpson, Kelly Clarkson etc. Cause the 2 of them can be different in high notes.

you shall have the disposition for it. for example I can quite loosely sing up to the C6 and above with hearvoice as a man. But of course you also need singtechic!
