im a new(ish) singer, 15, im currently taking lessons [and recovering from pneumonia], and the peice ive been working on is "a new life" from jekyll and hyde.

however, im nervous about singing in front of others, and seeing as theirs no way around it, i think i should audition for some community theatre rather than jumping right [as a sophmore] in to the judgemental world of highschool theatre.

so, i have two choices:

1. first week of september, not-too-competitive auditions for i love you, you're perfect, now change

2. first week of october, joseph and the amazing techicolor dreamcoat

which am i more likely to get a role in? is there even a role for me in either? [a chorus partll do, im not a picky beginner] all the information i get on either show would be super helpful, and any advice/ideas on my 16-bar audition peice would be great!

thanks in advance! (:

*the ily, perfect, change auditions arnt as competitive as josephs will be- alot of talented singers will show up for joseph, and that theatre is noted for having favorites, whereas ily, perfect, change will have more options, fairness, &availability.

I know nothing about the first musical - sorry.

However, in Joseph you'll find that's there's really only one female role - and that's the narrator (which is a fairly big role). This is off the top of my head, however, so you're best to google it.

There's plenty of chorus however. BUT - the size of the production makes a huge difference here - they could choose 2 or 3 per part for the chorus - or they could have 10 or 20 per part.

Could you not audition for both? It would give you more opportunity to battle those nerves, and then you can decide what you want to do after you've seen the outcome of the auditions. The more practise you can get at auditions, the better.

Good luck with them.
