Hello recently ive found out i need to go on a medication for my physical health. I need to take this medication but it has the side effect of a very dry mouth and throat. Im devastated as a singer. Does this mean my time of singing will be over? I know of various ways to lubricate the throat but are they effective enough when you have this as a side effect of medication? Has anyone else encountered this problem? Singing is such a huge part of my life its like having a part of me torn away contemplating what this medication will do. Any help is appreciated thank you.

Hello and sorry to hear about what you re going through. It is very common to experience dry mouth/throat when taking medications. Dry mouth/throat can certainly affect the vocals if not managed well. The good news is, there are things that can assist!
1. Plenty of water
2. Avoid dairy
3. Speaking in a lower register.
There are also products designed particularly for issues of dry mouth and throat which I have used for years. Get more information here:

Hope this helps and sorry again. I commend you for trying to find some kind of solution to gain control of the situation. As always, check in with your doctor.
