um... your best bet would be to shop around and ask.

Let's take a look at what MIDI is for a sec. MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) does not produce sounds, the sounds are produced by the sound modules that MIDI triggers. A MIDI file may sound wonderful on a large array of MIDI devices such as a stack of Keyboards and sound modules, but then you plug the exact same MIDI file into something like a computer where the sounds may not even be assigned properly, and you are at the mercy of whatever sound card is in that computer. This is exactly why I uploaded both a mp3 and a MIDI version of my Piano Toccata to 8notes. Both are from the MIDI, but there is a HUGE difference because the mp3 has all the sounds properly assigned. The MIDI version allows the user to assign the sounds and play with them in a MIDI program. Remember then, a MIDI file will NEVER sound better with a different program. What makes them sound better is a better source for them to play through.

Now if you want to talk about sound sources, then let's talk about VST and Virtual instruments inside your computer. There are also after market sound cards that are much much more than your normal sound blaster sound card.

First off, what are you trying to do? Get better keyboard sounds? Better Strings? What kind of sounds are you needing? For me, I want it all. I am that way. I use keyboards, modules, real instruments, sound card VSTs and sound bytes as well as wave tables. I use all kinds of samples, and i us my computer or my keyboards depending on the sound and type of sample to produce them back in the nicest form possible. This all costs major money too. Plan on spending 10,000.00 for a pretty complete MIDI studio. I spent about that.

If you have less than 1000.00 then and you have a computer and a MIDI keyboard, even a cheap one like a Casio, you have options! you can buy software for 119.00 like Reaktor 4 or MWaves sampled instruments software. There are many others, and you have to shop around to find the best one.
