How High Can You Go?

My highest is the A above the Staff . . . so I can get with most songs. I can hit the A regularly unless I`ve been playing for a long time, in which case my lips are tired and it becomes difficult . . .

What about everyone else here?

The one-leger-line A? Most orchestration books give the C a minor third above this A as the horn`s highest note, not meaning its highest possible note but rather the highest note an orchestrator should normally assign it. Relatively speaking, this written high C is an octave above the trumpet`s written high C. In other words, for the trumpet using no valves it`s the eighth harmonic, whereas for the horn using no valves it`s the sixteenth harmonic. As far as actual pitch goes, the F horn`s high C is a perfect fourth BELOW the Bb trumpet`s high C.

I can hit C (above the staff) fairly easily and clearly. On good days can squeak a few notes higher.

Sounds like me. But I definently prefer the lower pieces.

I can comfortably hit a G, but on good days I too can reach for an A.

I can hit a G most the time, still cant squeak out an A but I figure my range is pretty good for a high school freshman.

Hey guys, i agree with the highschool freshmen, that is good. If you want to build your range even more try practicing going from middle C to your highest note and back(walking up chromatically). Practice this over and over and eventually you will add a few notes to your range!

ps. it won't happen over night

i can hit Cs and Ds but it takes alot of effort and strain just to get them. I'm more comfortable hitting Gs and As. But of course the key to hitting higher notes is to have a good low range or practice on the low range then attempt to hit th higher notes. Practicing octaves without making the lips move also seems to be an effective way of hitting high notes with ease.
