I tried the Conn 8D and fell completely in love with it.

I've been saving up money and now the only reason I'm not buying it is that someone told me that nickel-silver (an alloy of copper with nickel and sometimes zinc) will be inclined to crack if there's too much nickel in it.
Is this true?

Also I've considered getting it silver plated - is that a good idea? pro et contra

Thanks,
Niels

#1 Many, if not most, professional players play nickel horns.
#2 Crack?! In what way, the sound? No, I think not. Physically - again. no, I think not.
I have seven horns 5 are nickel, 2 are brass. None of them have crackd physically and none everf sound baad
#3 You played a Conn 8D and fell in love, play an old Conn from Elkhart and then tell us how you feel.
#4 silver plate a nickel horn? I don't think you want to do this. Physically, yes it is great to build silver on top of nickel. But if you plate the insturment you will get and entirely different sound. I do not recommend it.

Okay that really helped me - thank you a lot!
I would love to try more horns but since I'm living in Denmark I have to travel quite a bit so I'm not sure that will happen :S
But hanks for the advices!
Niels
