I have been in marching band for two years now and every year get my mouthpiece stuck to the extension. What can I do to prevent this? The extension is the part that extends the mouthpiece to the regular valve hole.

My suggestion - take a piece of paper and tear off a small piece about 1 inch wide and 2 inches long. Dampen the piece of paper with your tongue/saliva and then carefully wrap the paper around the base of your mouthpiece shank. Then carefully place it into your extension. (You could also use a thin piece of plastic, like a cut up sandwich baggie.

The paper will keep the two metals from reacting with each other. You may also notice a little better speaking on your articulations.

Mouthpieces usually get stuck because of too much pressure putting them together. Of course in marching band not having it in firm enough results in the mouthpiece falling out. Sometimes the two different metals of the mouthpiece and extensoin cause a reaction that contributes to the difficulty in separating them.

Thanks that sounds like a good idea I will try it.
