All da saxes r great 4 jazz, especially once u acheive a gd tone. If ur startin out its best 2 play da alto sax as its easiest (i`ve found) to acheive a gd tone, my main sax is da soprano coz its more unusual nd i`ve found its da best one 2 reflect me. Jazz is all about emotion nd fun through music so try all da saxes nd specialise in da sax which best reflects u!

All Saxaphones are good for playing jazz. Including Somprano Sax.
Just depends on what type of sound you like.

My brother is a professor of saxophone, and is a world class jazz sax improvisionist. He plays tenor, alto and soprano sax. Which horn depends on what he`s playing. So I would say that if you plan on becoming a pro jazz saxophonist you should learn to play all three well.

hey ya, I play all four types + tenor C-melody, and am thinking about getting a sopranino. They`re all great for jazz or anything. Learn to play them all, and you`ll probably have a better shot when going pro. Depends though. It`s good to be able to switch around.

It really doesn`t matter which sax you play. If you can play one, chances are you can pick up the others pretty easily. I would say if you`re really serious about going pro, instead of spending money on buying every saxophone, get a clarinet and a flute and learn how to double on those. There aren`t many jobs for a sapranino player, but someone that can double on clarinet and flute can get a lot of work.

Well, we cannot say which Saxaphone is the best for Jazz, because in truth, all instruments that are in the Jazz bands were picked to be in there because of their flexibility...

Lets look at Alto Sax...It is an octave higher then the Bari Sax....I personally believe that the Alto Saxaphone became very popular because of Jazz music, but that`s just my opinion.

For Tenor Sax...it is in the key of B flat, same as Trumpet...

Well, I can`t really explain instrument by instrument, but I can make a comparison...

For chorus, why do you have a Soprano I II III, Alto I II, Tenor I II, and Bass?? (the I II III is 1 2 3 FYI, my school has that system, not sure about other chorus systems...) It is to get all the qualities of each section, and put it together...

I really like alto... but John Coltrane played tenor and he`s the man... stick with what you have i guess...

All jazz musicians made the instruments theirs, not the other way around. A true saxophonist, is just filled with jazz and blues, so choose the instrument that tells your story the best.

hey the best sax for jazz is the tenor, then soprano, then alto. Beleive me i`m thriteen and have been playing jazz and the sax since i was 7. I got to play on satge with Kenny G and Peter White. If you have a choice on which one to play the tenor is the most jazziest, I asked Kenny G personally. But i play all 3. If you play the tenor it is the hardest to play.

The tenor has a good mellow voice to it, good for alot of solos and with the right mouthpiece, tenor is the best. But i personally choose the alto
