if you`re in school then join the band. if you`re not and are serious about learnig then buy a sax. never buy a cheap sax cause if you actually learn, then having a cheap sax is discouraging. also a better quality sax will sell easier if things don`t work out.

Ya I agree. You could try renting one. And if your in school then your school might have some loners.

And if you want to get good with out a private teacher. I suggest practicing longtones, overtones, scales, intervalls, a.k.a the basics.

yoou probly should rent it for a year from whatever music store( most of them have sax rentals) because youde get the oppourtunity to try out a descent sax but after a year i wouldnt recomend you buy the same kind of sax unless ur happy with it... but if you want to stay with playing the sax ide suggest yougetting a better quality sax.. not that the rentals are bad its just u can ge beter... the kind that you rent are usually yamaha and it has a rather bright tone... ifor one dont likeit... i have an antique sax from i think the 50s and i love the tone of it... (its been in my family for quite some time)in my oppinion they have the best tone out of all the brands now.. because back then they used to make it heavier at the horn wichwould mak it have a heavy, jazzy (hard to explain) but i had to get it fixed mabey like 3 times to get it where it is now... and im glad i stayed with that sax... another downfall is theyre extreamly expensive compared to normal saxs... thyre range is about 7000 and up.... if you get it for cheaper thanthats a really good deal but youde have to wounder how much things youde need to get fixed.. and they are rather hard to find compared to the newer brands..... if you do get that ide get an accadamy kind(its a brand) thats the brand that i have and i like it alot.... but if your not into anitiques or just dont have that much money ide ask the person ur buying the sax from what he suggest if you dont want so much of a bright tone... but if u buy it...... you should rent for a year and do alot of scales and long tones so when you go to buy a sax youll be able to test it out..... and youl actually be able to hear the diffrence... and have the person your buying from or a friend to stand at the back of the room so you can get theyre oppinion..i have a site that i put all kinds of scale sites and longtone site links on it so you vcan use those when u do them the website is www.jennovia.cjb.net if you have any comments or questions put it in the gest book or forums or email me.....

I don`t know where in the world you are but if you are in the uk you could try saxophones uk.com. I know they rent half decent horns at reasonable prices.
