I personally think that anyone that thinks eddie van halen is an overrated, juevenile guitar player must be out of their minds. hendrix is definitely the overrated one. i would have loved to have known what hendrix sounded like when he wasn`t on LSD or some other drug. he was good... i am definitely not denying that, but in my opinion, not better than eddie. eddie puts more love in his playing that hendrix ever did. to me, eddie is the true definition of a rock star. the only reason hendrix gets so much attention is because he`s dead... hendrix was rejected so bad.... some stations wouldn`t even play his songs... he died b4 he ever reached true superstardom. anyway, on to my list.

Guitarists-Eddie, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton.
Vocals-Steven Tyler could definitely rock anyone, axl rose, and i think jim morrison had one sexy voice.
Drums- John Bonham probly...i think alex van halen is very good too.
Bass- i think jack bruce from cream is very good.. also john paul jones from zep.

It was amazing going through the different lists put up here. Most of them are very cool. Here is mine:

Vocals:
1. Freddie Merury: Without a shadow of a doubt the voice of the century. You can`t get close to freddie.

Guitar:
1. Jimi Hendrix : Who else???
2.John Petrucci : You have to hear his solo at this live show they did!!!!! Orgasmic!!!

Bass:
1. Geddy Lee
2. Flea
3. Paul Mc Cartney: Maybe he could double up on the vocals

Drums:

1. Mike Portnoy
2. Neil Peart
3. Lars Ullrich

Well Thats my band, you can mix and match but i really think the best would have to be from this list.
Cheers!!!

On vocals it has to be Freddie Mercury he is jut one of a kind no one is as good as him he is a great singer, song writer, one of the best showman "Infact the best show man EVER".
On Guitar its Pete Townshend (The Who) or Brian May both of them are just uniqe, better than Jimmy page and Slash Who are over rated
On bass Guitar it is John Entwistle from the who although he is not my favourite i still would rate him the best
On Drums it just has to be Roger Taylor From Queen he is just fantastic far better than John (Zeppelin) nothing against Zeppelin fans "he is over rated", and Peart he is amazing but i would put him down as 2nd best then I would put John 3rd best. I think that Taylor is the best because he can play the drums so professional and his his stamina in live preformanses start to finish is just fantastic he also does back up vocals and sometimes takes lead vocals whilst playing the drums and if that doest top it of he also writes his own songs. He is a kind of magic There can be only one.

Best vocalists: Steven Tyler, Axyl Rose
Guitar: Well, he`s not a rocker - more jazz and fusion - but if you ever want to hear someone who leaves all others gasping for air, it`s Al DiMeola (I know, I know - I didn`t believe it, either, until I heard him). After that come the "true rockers:" Hendrix, Van Halen, Gilmour, Clapton, Santana, Allman.
Bass: Entwistle, Jack Bruce.
Drums: Again, not a rocker, but none could hold a candle to Buddy Rich. Among the rockers: Keith Moon, Carl Palmer, Alix Van Halen.

I personally think that the best guitar players are Duane Allman, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Hendrix, and Jimmy Page. But I don`t understand all the fuss over Hendrix, I understand that he was very talented, but if you really listen to Page it just blows me away. Led Zeppelin is the shiznaa. I don`t think people give Duane Allman enough credit. He is so damn good when he plays that thing, if you listen to him, it is just so smooth, it`s just great playing.

Best Drummers are John Bonham, and Ginger Baker, and Neil Peart. Listen to some of Baker`s stuff it is freakin amazing. But when you listen to Bonham on Moby Dick when playin with his hands it is so god damn impressive u can`t pass him up.

Best bassists John Paul Jones, and Jack Bruce. Look at the way Bonham`s fingers move it looks like hes fingering a whore, his stuff blows me away man.

Best vocalists Jim Morrison, John Fogerty, Robert Plant, and Tom Johnston.

RIGHT im sick of the majority of you people on this forum! I am a drummer (fairly good if i do say so myself) and i just want to give my fairly informed opinion. Neil Peart is incredible i must say, but i see him as more "musical", if you are looking for a plain drummer Bonham had the style, skill and above all, power. Dont overlook drummers such as Marco Miniman (or however you spell it) and Tony Royster Jr (considdering his age he is incredible). Also, by `best` drummer what do you mean? in terms of skill someone like peart or miniman would come out on top. But drummers like Ringo star and John Bonham not only held the music together, they made the music sound much better by not over-complication things. So basically... it`s a matter of opinion.. But for god`s sake get it into your neandrathol heads- LARS IS AWFUL he can`t even keep a beat! GEEZ! Anyway that bassist from weather report, can`t recall his name, he was really good. Dunno bout the rest of the band
