This is just a quick poll to see who is everyone's favorite composer, and maybe what their favorite piece by that composer is. My personal favorites are practically anything by Grieg or Bizet and the most well-known piano pieces by Beethoven - 1st mvnt. Moonlight Sonata & Fur Elise.

Goodness, there are so many good ones...I love to perform anything by Percy Grainger (I had fun with a winds/percussion arrangement of Molly on the Shore). Copland, Bernstein, and Gershwin are my favorites from the States (Rhapsody in Blue is such a wicked-awesome piece to listen to), and I like Rachmoninoff, Prokofiev, Bartok, Strauss, Dvorak, and Griffes. My tastes are mostly Romantic and Modern.

hey!

I dunno if anyone's heard of this guy, Joe Hisaishi? He composes the soundtracks for Studio Ghibli anime films, like Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle. His songs has this special element to it. He loves the combination of oboe, bassoon and flutes. The clarinet always play the "bad guy" tune. Try to find this arrangement, "Animation Songs Medley". Beautiful song.

And Nubuo Uematsu, the composer for Final Fantasy. He rocks.

I guess the music I listen to are mostly from film composers. Hehe.
