Canon in D by Johann Pachelbel. You can sample it at www.easybyte.org

Yes, Canon in D by Johann Pachelbel is a great wedding song! I've played it at a wedding before & it is such a wonderful song!

If you choose Pachelbel and you're using a string quartet, be prepared for an unhappy cellist.

I would recommend something slightly unconventional, just to keep things interesting. It's been a tradition in my family to use "All Good Gifts" from Godspell, and I really want "One Hand, One Heart" from West Side Story in my wedding if I ever get married.

I'd also like to add that "Gloria" and "Sanctus" don't really do much for us because there's about eight million different compositions of the same titles.

Also try Schubert's "Ave Maria," which is a staple in wedding repitore.

I play Massenet's Thais, Debussy's Clair de Lune, and/or Grieg's Nocturne to quiet the room before the ceremony begins.

I use excerpts from Handel's Water Music, and the baroque ceremonial music like Trumpet Voluntary and Trumpet Tune for the processional (and of course Pachebel's Canon.)

I use an up-tempo excerpt from the Water Music for a Recessional.

And (of course) you could play "Wedding March" from "A Mid-Summer's Night Dream" by Mendelssohn...
