yeh......
practise with the left hand on its own. then practise with the right hand on its own......
then put them together when you know them well.
start off really slow then gradually pick up speed as you go along. soon you will be able to put both hands together.
i taught myself the piano and in two years i was up to grade 8 standard.
oh yeh and another tip.... only practise one bar at a time, only move on when you know that bar really well. this may take f*ck**g ages but it helps you get through it better. hope this helps.

PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE
that is the key to playing the piano great.
practice hands alone than slowly put together

I agree with all the other points here- you just have to practise hands separately. Try and practice one (usually the left cos the rhythms are usually simpleer) until it becomes automatic. Just play it over and over and over again until you can play it without thinking, and then add the right hand slowly.

The most important thing is to take your time and read the notes then clap the rhythm each hand then play each hand seperatly slowly then build up speed good luck

i think practising right hand then left would be the best.

get familiar with ure notes as well.

then practise both hands.

and practise everyday or when u get the chance.

BEFORE playing the piece, I suggest you to listen some CDs/mp3 of the piece you are going to play for more than 10 times.

1. Divide the whole piece into parts and plan how to work on each part. Analysis the style and dynamic of each part.

2. you have to use the right techniaue to practice by separate-hand for EACH PHRASE. REMEMBER!! DON`T RUSH otherwise you won`t play good and elegant music.

3. practice the connection between phrases by separated hand.

4. try play each phrases by both hands and LISTEN to the flow of the piece

5. practice more makes perfect!

I also suggest you invite some friends who have good musical sense to listen your performace so that they can make you improve. But I think that having a piano teacher is better to make everything works more efficiently!
