I love Baroque also. I love the beauty that lies deep in its simplicity. And the emotional intensity that grows, often out of its tightly integrated structure...Well, what can one say...When something`s so beautiful that u`ve quite gotta play and experience it yrself. I hope that alot more pp will divert their attn. to baroque music, rather than their Tchaikovsky and so on. Happy praticing people.

But what`s yr fav. baroque music? Mine`s the following :
1. Movement 2 from Bach`s Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 in F major.
2. Bach`s violin concerto for 2 violins. Esp. the 2nd movement.
3. Lucia Di Lammermoor by Donizetti ( opera)
4. Vivaldi`s four seasons. Esp. the last 2.
5.Ombra mai Fu ( Handel)
6. The Harmonious Blacksmith by Handel
7. Actually, almost all of Bach`s works. Musical offerings, Concertos, etc. The same goes for Vivaldi and Handel. I esp. like their chamber works. I love the `discipline` in the music. And it`s really enthralling how one can zest up with all that rhythmic vitality , then feel so serene later in a totally different movement. Well, that`s some efficient music from a totally awesome period isn`t it?

i love classical music, i am fascinated with the different combinations of different polyphonic voices, and their combinations fugally arranged -especially bach`s, handel`s, scarlatti`s, vivaldi`s. not like the composer`s in the classical period(later than the baroque) who always depend their compositions in a repeating rhythm and their episodes in unisons. like Beethoven and Mozart

Hello all. It`s good to hear that at least a few people are willing to talk about Baroque music and not just late Romantic and beyond.
Just a few thoughts, everyone seems to have missed the earlier Baroque composers. Italians like Corelli and Marini are excellent and we can`t forget the German precursors to Bach, Schutz and Schein. Though more of a late Renaissance composer, Gabrieli is also excellent.

peace

Hello. I too love baroque music. My favorites are fast allegros for oboe, recorder, or trumpet. I listen to them in the morning before going to work and in my car. They give me a sense of professionalism. I tend to dress up more elegantly because of the music too, pumps and suits being quite common.

I know this is a little off topic, but baroque music makes me feel so good and classy inside. Totally out of the blue I dressed up more formally for work this morning while listening to Vivaldi`s Piccolo (Flautino) Concertos, for piccolo, strings & continuo in C Major, RV 444. So now I`m wearing a smart beige pantsuit and brown pumps. I`m even wearing pantyhose underneath! This music totally makes me feel elegant.

It is a "had music" (listen to bach an u`ll get wat i mean , i think u know toccata in G minor or in d minor ,what ever, there "hard" if u undertand me ?)
hope this maks u understand...though i doubt it....

I was brought up on classical music while growing up. I gravitated to the Baroque period music because of its beauty and intricacy. My favorite composers are Albinoni, Handel and Bach, simply because of their artistry with the music and how they could match the mood of the music with a certain placement of a few simple notes.

Barouque is also considered very fluid as when in comparison to other styles of classical music. There is also barouque art. The art usually depicts a movement of sorts.
Flowing hair with images dispalying arms in action ( shooting and arrow for instance).
I too like barouque music, especially Vavaldi four seasons. and sonatas.
I am not an expert but I do know what I like. I also try to get my kids to listen as I beleive this music opens the mind. Many of today`s music closes the mind tightly. happy listening!

Okay, rough division of musical periods:

1600-1750 Baroque

Music is often polyphonic, elaborate and ornamented. Famous composers;

Bach ( the most famous )
Handel
Scarlati
Vivaldi
Couperin
Rameaux
Albininoni
Purcell
And on and on...

1750-1800 Classical

The music tends to refined, simple and more melodic i.e. you can hum it easily.
Famous composers;

Mozart ( ever popular )
Hadyn
Beethoven ( also romantic )
Gluck
There are many more... but lists are boring.

1800- Romantic

I haven`t put an end to the romantic era, because it didn`t end ( romantic type composers are still common in modern times ). Music from this era is very melodic, emotional and flowing.
Famous composers;

Berlioz
Liszt
Wagner
Verdi
Mahler
Bruckner
Elgar
Saint-saens
Bellini
All the Russians pre-1910
And on into the thousands...

1890- Modern

Music that sounds weird. If classicism was represented by a painting, modernism would be by soup cans.
Blame some of the following composers;

Debussy
Strauss
Stravinsky
Prokofiev
Bartok
Ravel
Satie
Britten
Ect...
