About 'La ci darem la mano from 'Don Giovanni''
|Artist:||Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus (biography) (sheet music)|
|Born:||January 27, 1756 , December 5, 1791|
|Died:||Salzburg , Vienna|
|The Artist:||A child prodigy, Mozart wrote his first symphony when he was eight years old and his first opera at 12. He went on to write some of the most important masterpieces of the Classical era, including symphonies, operas, string quartets and piano music.|
"Là ci darem la mano" (Italian for "There we will give each other our hands") is a duet for the characters Don Giovanni (baritone) and Zerlina (soprano) in Mozart's 1787 opera Don Giovanni.
Là ci darem la mano,
Là mi dirai di sì.
Vedi, non è lontano;
Partiam, ben mio, da qui.
(Vorrei e non vorrei,
Mi trema un poco il cor.
Felice, è ver, sarei,
Ma può burlarmi ancor.)
Vieni, mio bel diletto!
(Mi fa pietà Masetto.)
Io cangierò tua sorte.
Presto... non son più forte.
Andiam, andiam, mio bene.
a ristorar le pene
D’un innocente amor.
There we’ll be hand in hand, dear,
There you will say, “I do.”
Look, it is right at hand, dear;
Let’s go from here, me and you.
(I want to, but it’s not pure,
My heart is ill at ease.
I would be happy, I’m sure,
But it may all be a tease.)
Come, sweetest love, let’s hurry!
(Masetto gives me worry.)
I’ll change your life forever.
Soon, dear... I don’t feel clever.
Let’s go, my love, let’s go,
To heal the pain and woe
Of love that’s innocent.
