Since I knew the Mustelids don't do serial, I searched for it on YouTube, eventually listening to a lot of Berio, Boulez, Dallapiccola, Sessions, and others.
Did I enjoy the experience? I felt as if I were listening to the aural equivalent of Jackson Pollock: total chaos, with absolutely no hint of pattern or design.
Where did Herr Arnold go wrong? It's painfully ironic that composers of the 1950s and the 1960s who did not follow the twelve tone fashion were ridiculed as writing film music, for that period was one of the best for truly magnificent film music.
